Caseloads of the Courts of Washington

Welcome to our online presentation of the Caseloads of the Courts of Washington. Data from the state’s Judicial Information System (JIS) are presented here to provide a detailed overview of the level of activity in the courts of Washington.

The menu on the left provides links to the six major sections of this publication. The first four direct you to specific court levels and the time periods for which data are available. The fifth section is dedicated to trial court staffing and estimates of judicial needs for those courts. The final section of this presentation provides links to supplemental documents related to the courts and this publication. This section contains information that will enable you to understand the courts in general as well as the data used to generate the tables.

Monthly, year-to-date, and annual data are shown for every Superior Court and most of the District and Municipal Courts in the state. Limited aggregated data for Seattle Municipal Court, which does not employ the JIS, are available and shown in most of the Courts of Limited Jurisdiction tables. Exceptions to the inclusion of Seattle Municipal data are noted on the affected tables.

Reports available on an annual basis only include those for the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, and the Staffing and Judicial Needs Estimates for the trial courts. In addition, the annual reports provide five-year trend data on statewide totals. For each of the court levels and the staffing and judicial needs sections, a glossary of terms is included.

We hope this online publication provides you with useful information. If you have any questions or comments regarding these caseload pages, call the Administrative Office of the Courts at (360) 753-3365, or use the e-mail address shown on the "Information" page.
