CrRLJ 4.2 PLEAS

Purpose: Please see the statement of purpose for the suggested amendment to CrRLJ 4.1. This suggested amendment, by preventing the court from accepting a plea from an unrepresented defendant in the absence of a valid waiver, is intended to underscore the importance of either appointing counsel for a defendant intending to enter a plea or invoking the appropriate procedures to ensure that a waiver of counsel is valid.
