Domestic Violence Information

General Information

A Domestic Violence Protection Order can be obtained at any court in the state. There is no charge for the person applying for the Protection Order.

Many courts have advocates who will help you through the Protection Order process at the courthouse.

Other, related types of court orders include Anti-Harassment Orders, Restraining Orders and No Contact Orders. The difference between the types of court orders available is explained in the brochure Legal Protection from Domestic Violence: Information on Court Orders.

King County has provided a Domestic Violence Information Page which provides information written for persons affected by or wanting to learn about domestic violence.
