Minimum Salary: $4,798.00 per month Maximum Salary: $5,644.00 per month

Summary
 
Performs professional probation work to monitor adult misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor offenders and certain juvenile offenders placed on probationary supervision. Assures compliance with the orders of the court; preserves public safety; reduces recidivism; serves as the liaison between the court and the offenders. Conducts pre-sentence investigations, client evaluation, counseling and referrals, and coordinates and monitors client treatment programs.
 
Minimum Qualifications
 
A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, Police Science or closely related field, and three years of progressively responsible probation counseling or counseling in the field of chemical dependency, or; any combination of relevant education and experience that would demonstrate the individual's knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the duties of the position. Criminal justice system experience is highly desirable. Must possess or be able to obtain by hire date a valid Washington State driver's license. Must successfully complete a thorough background check. Must successfully pass a voice stress analyzer.
 
Must successfully complete the Correctional Services Academy training within six months of employment as required by WAC 139-10-210.
 
Hours of Work
 
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday
 
Preferred Qualifications
 
Criminal justice system experience is highly desirable. Certification as a Qualified Alcoholism Assessment Officer as required by WAC 275-19 is preferred.
 
Working Conditions & Physical Activities
 
Work is performed in an office environment, variable hours, evening and/or weekend court sessions may occur. Exposure to physical hazard may occur occasionally when interviewing hostile clients with a potential for violence in the office or jail. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use arms, hands and fingers to reach, handle, feel, or operate objects, materials, tools, equipment or controls. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, and talk. Occasionally required to lift in excess of 10 pounds.
 
Union Affiliation
 
As a condition of employment, must become a member of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Union (AFSCME) within 30 days of employment or meet alternate regulations as set forth in the Agreement between the Union and the City.
