SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Positions assigned to Court Security Officer are Commissioned Deputies who provide protection and security for the Thurston County Superior, Family, and Juvenile Courts and respective facilities. Responsibilities include providing essential security functions to assigned court facilities by maintaining order and ensuring the personal safety and security of judges, staff, the court facility and the general public. Operates and maintains the security screening functions in court facilities. Monitors and responds to courtroom and court facilities emergency alarms. Responds to calls for security services and assistance. 
 
Required to make arrests, serve warrants and make probable cause arrests without a warrant. Examines and processes time-sensitive legal documents for the Juvenile Court, checks for accuracy, completeness and legal compliance with federal and state laws and enters or removes information into/from ACCESS/WACIC/NCIC System. 
 

 
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED.
 
Two year’s law enforcement experience, including graduate from a Washington State Basic or Reserve Law Enforcement Academy, experience with security measures and devices and crowd control.
 
Must obtain a Special Commission from the Thurston County Sheriff's Office at time of hire.
 
Must possess, or obtain upon hire, a concealed weapons permit from the State of Washington. Officers are required to provide their own weapon, which meets Thurston County Sheriff’s Office standards.
 
Must be trained and qualified within the past 12 months in the use of a short firearm, with requirement to successfully re-qualify with Sheriff’s Deputies.
 
Must maintain a valid First Aid Card with certification in the use of the Life Pak Emergency Defibrillator.
 
Must be able to pass background investigation which may include but is not limited to employment history, criminal history, psychological evaluation and a polygraph exam.
 
Must have a valid Washington State Drivers License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
