The Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) is adopting a comprehensive Diversity Plan in 2013 that will guide its efforts to advance diversity and inclusion within the organization and promote retention and equality across the legal profession. The Program Coordinator is critical to the implementation of WSBA’s Diversity Plan. The next Program Coordinator will be a well organized, motivated, and effective communicator who will work closely with the Diversity Program Manager to foster diversity, equality, and cultural understanding throughout the legal community. Under the direction of the Diversity Program Manager, this position is responsible for a significant amount of logistical and project support in the following areas:
· Outreach & Training
· Volunteer & Committee Support
· Events & Communications
· Administration & Other Duties
Responsibilities includes logistical support for trainings, committee meetings, outreach efforts, events, and communications to include scheduling, recording/distributing meeting minutes, maintaining committee files, serving as a point of contact to committee members and guests, coordinate trainings, orientations, events, and facilitate internal meetings. Additionally, the position manages communications and PR related content on the website, blog posts, articles, along with researching, analyzing, and writing topical memos in collaboration with staff and volunteers. There is regular interaction with committee chairs and members (i.e. judges, public officials, and members of other bar associations); a wide range of diversity stakeholders; the WSBA Board of Governors; members (Washington lawyers); and volunteers, including members of the public. Organizational skills, diplomacy, customer service, communication skills, and attention to detail are valuable to carrying out the work.
We are seeking a critical quantitative thinker who possesses diplomacy and a demonstrated ability for successfully multi-tasking, meeting tight deadlines, and maintaining composure under pressure. superior MS Office/social media/web writing skills are crucial. The volume, type and intensity of work can changes from day to day. A high degree of flexibility and capacity to shift gears without dropping details is required.
Requirements: Associates degree or equivalent education/experience. Minimum 3 years demonstrated experience building relationships across cultural boundaries and/or working with diverse populations (specialty community groups, schools, global affinity groups, etc). Qualified candidates will have experience facilitating meetings and/or conducting trainings, experience in working with high conflict individuals and/or groups, experience in developing a social media presence, experience working in a fast-paced office setting with concurrent deadlines and event management experience. Quantitative and analytic skills are needed to synthesize information, recommend and evaluate information in the interest of advancing member programs. Demonstrated creativity, organizational ability, and strict attention to detail is necessary, as is the ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, prioritize, and juggle multiple projects with a professional manner. Preferred: Undergraduate degree and experience working in a professional office setting; Experience working with senior management and experience working with the legal community is a plus.
