ETHICS ADVISORY COMMITTEE STATE OF WASHINGTON OPINION NO. 86-16 QUESTION Is it permissible for a judge to be a member of an international service organization which does not admit female members? ANSWER It is permissible for a judge to be a member of an international service organization which does not admit female members subject to the following: A judge shall disclose his membership in the organization to any lawyer or party involved in an action before the judge where the judge’s impartiality or appearance thereof may be reasonably questioned as a result of his association with that organization under CJC Canon 2(A) and 5(B), and the judge should also offer to withdraw from the case.
