Request Summary:

The State Auditor’s Office (SAO) assigns Budgeting, Accounting, and Reporting System (BARS) codes for the reporting of financial transactions by courts within the state. The SAO has decided to remove some BARS codes from AOC effective January 1, 2013.   AOC must change its systems to comply with these changes.

Business Impacts:

Implementation of either Alternative #1 or #2 will ensure AOC’s  systems comply with the latest BARS manual as of the implementation date.

Summary of Proposed Solution

AOC will select the most appropriate alternative to implement based on coordination with the SAO.

Proposed Solution

The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) will select one of two alternatives to fulfill this mandate. Alternative #1 would redesign the Judicial Information System (JIS) application to allow for end dating BARS codes. This is a significant change to JIS and would require changes to the Data Warehouse. Alternative #2 would utilize BARS codes that are currently unused to replace the removed codes. If the mandate is not changed, AOC must select one of the two alternatives to implement on January 1, 2013. Both alternatives may also require modifications in the Judicial Receipting System (JRS).
