The Data Breach The Washington State Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) announced that a security breach occurred on its public website. No court records were altered and no personal financial information, such as bank account numbers or credit card numbers, is maintained on the site. However, up to 160,000 social security numbers and 1 million driver license numbers may have potentially been accessed. Individuals meeting the following criteria could potentially be affected by the breach:
What is AOC Doing to Help? We regret that this breach has occurred and we have taken immediate action to enhance our security to ensure this situation does not happen again. Call the Administrative Office of the CourtsThe easiest way to check if your Social Security Number or Driver License Number may have been accessed is to call: (360)753-3365Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PDTPlease do not contact local courts concerning this matter as they will not have the information to answer your questions. Internal and Independent AnalysisOnce the breach was discovered, immediate actions were taken to secure the site, begin investigation, analyze the impacts, and undertake significant security enhancements to prevent further compromise. Beware of ScammersNo one from the Washington State Court System, Administrative Office of the Courts, other state agencies, or any private company will call or email you to request your personal information, including your Social Security Number (SSN). Anyone who does so could be a scammer. Don't give out any personal information unless you initiated the contact by calling our hotline. |
