Supreme Court Inauguration Ceremony this Friday for Newly-Elected Justice Wiggins, Chief Justice Madsen and Justice James JohnsonJanuary 03, 2011
OLYMPIA, WA— On Friday, January 7th at 9:30 a.m. Charlie Wiggins will be sworn in as the state’s newest-elected justice of the Washington Supreme Court.
The inauguration ceremony will also mark the start of a fourth term for Chief Justice Barbara Madsen and a second term for Justice Jim Johnson who both won re-election to additional, six-year terms.
The event is open to the public and will be held in the Supreme Court at the Temple of Justice in Olympia.
Wiggins was elected to the Supreme Court in the 2010 general election. A resident of Bainbridge Island, Wiggins was admitted practice law in 1976 and has served in private practice as well as a judge on Division II of the Washington Court of Appeals.
Madsen is the third woman to be elected to a seat on the bench of the Washington State Supreme Court since the formation of the Court in 1889. Justice Madsen was first elected in 1992, and was elected by her colleagues to the position of Chief Justice in 2009. Justice James M. Johnson was first elected to the Court in 2004.
