Skagit County Superior Court Judge John M. Meyer was recently elected as the new treasurer of the State Superior Court Judges' Association (SCJA). The SCJA president and board of trustees represent the 171 judges of Washington's county-level superior courts. Created by state statute, the association provides its members with continuing judicial education, recommends changes to civil and criminal court rules, and promotes improvement in judicial administration. Meyer has served on the Skagit County Superior Court bench since 1997. A former district court judge, he maintained a private practice partnership with the Mount Vernon firm of Gilbert and Meyer from 1975-95. Among his community activities, Judge Meyer has served as past-president to the Skagit County Bar Association, the University of Washington Alumni Association, Skagit Valley College Foundation, Skagit Valley YMCA, and Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon
