Training Overview
Persons with a disability, who require accommodation, should notify Kim Rood at 360-704-4081 or LayGuardianTraining@courts.wa.gov to request or discuss accommodations. While advance notice is preferred, every effort will be made to provide accommodations, when requested.
NOTE: Two people cannot register using the same email address. Only one person can use a shared email address. If you need a fictitious address, please email LayGuardianTraining@courts.wa.gov and we will provide you with one.
To be appointed a guardian of the person and/or estate, or to continue serving as a guardian of the person and/or estate, you are required to learn about or refresh your knowledge of the responsibilities of a guardian and inform the court you understand those responsibilities. Each co-guardian must complete the training individually. Here's how you do that: |

Complete the registration.
- You will receive a login and password shortly after completing the registration.
- The online training will be available after 2 p.m. the next business day.

Complete the training in one sitting or stop and return as often as you like.
- The training consists of four self-paced modules and two exams.

Please keep your login and password in a safe place.
- Each time you stop and return, you will be asked to enter your login and password.
- When you return, you will begin the new session on the last slide you viewed.

"GDN 101 Introduction" approximately 10 minutes in length.
"Guardian of the Person" and complete the exam. Approximately 30 minutes in length.
"Guardian of the Estate" and complete the exam. Approximately 30 minutes in length.
"Guardianship Forms" approximately 30 minutes in length.
NOTE: You must view the modules in their entirety in order to unlock the next module or the Declaration of Completion of Training. |

| The “Guardianship 101 Biographies, Resources, and Vocabulary” modules are not mandatory to complete the training.

Complete and print the Declaration of Completion of Training.
- By signing the declaration you are declaring that you personally completed the training.

File the completed Declaration with the court.
- Persons seeking appointment should file the Declaration with the petition for guardianship.
- Persons who have not completed training at the time of appointment must file the Declaration within 90 days of appointment.
- Existing guardians should file the Declaration with your annual report.
