Representatives from the King County District Court Managers' Conference and the Court Support Orientation have invited the Education Subcommittee to conduct cultural diversity education programs. Ms. Esther L. Patrick is the contact for the King County District Court Managers Conference. Ms. Krista L. Goldstine-Cole, Office of the Administrator for the Courts, Judicial Education, is the contact for the Court Support Orientation. Details concerning the conferences are still pending.
Judge Cox reported on the 1999 Judicial College Cultural Diversity Program held on January 26, 1999 at the Sheraton Hotel in Tacoma. Judge Cox thought that the program, presented by Achievement Architects North, was well received by the Judges.
The subcommittee discussed different methods to identify consultants who are qualified to present cultural diversity education programs for judicial and court employees. Ms. McConnell-Adams will work with Ms. Bev J. Yokoyama, Contracts Specialist, Administrator for the Courts on how to develop a Master Contract or Certification Contract.
The subcommittee discussed target audiences for future cultural diversity educational programs. Potential programs and audiences include:
A question was raised concerning the possibility of offering programs to non-court personnel such as law enforcement and probation officers, and guardians ad litem. The subcommittee discussed taking this question to the Executive Committee or the Commission for further discussion.
The subcommittee discussed continuing to conduct telephone conference calls rather than in-person meetings. Subcommittee members who were available for the conference call thought Friday was an acceptable day. However, some subcommittee members who were unable to participate in the February 5, 1999 conference call would prefer a different day and time for any meeting.
The conference call was adjourned at 10:40 a.m.
