Join Meeting with the Court Management Council

The Board for Judicial Administration and the Court Management Council met to review the recommendations of the Project 2001 Committee.

Call to Order

The business meeting was called to order by Judge James Murphy, co-chair.

Minutes

It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes of the October 20, 2000 meeting as published. Motion passed unanimously.

Final Action on Project 2001 Recommendations

Judge Vance Peterson provided an overview of the recommendations of the Warrant Resolution Work Group, the focus of the presentation being the community licenses reinstatement program.

The Board briefly reviewed each of the recommendations from the Project 2001 Committee. The Board's actions on the recommendations are reflected on the attached grid.

Review of Jury Commission Report

The Board began review of the recommendations of the Jury Commission.

It was moved, seconded and passed to support recommendation 12, which covers juror compensation. The motion passed unanimously.

It was moved by Judge Kessler to make jury service mandatory 2 day/one trial. The motion failed for lack of second.

Judge Riehl suggested the review of the Jury Commission report be delayed until December to allow staff an opportunity to assemble comments in the same format as the Project 2001 report. The Board agreed to delay review until December.

Access to Justice

Mr. Bamberger said he will report the Board's actions pertaining to the Project 2001 report to the Access to Justice Board.

Other Business

Chief Justice Guy expressed appreciation to Judge Swayze and Mr. Paul Steere for their many hours of hard work in guiding the Project 2001 Committee. The Chief Justice also thanked Mr. Wayne Blair for his contributions.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
