Ethics Advisory Committee

Opinion 90-12

Question

May a judicial officer serve on a committee established by a municipality to advise the city council on the siting and operation of a regional justice center?

Answer

CJC Canon 4 and Canon 5(G) allow a judicial officer to serve on a committee established by a municipality to advise the city council on the siting and operation of a regional justice center as it involves a policy matter affecting the administration of justice.

The Supreme Court adopted a new Code of Judicial Conduct effective January 1, 2011. In addition to reviewing the ethics advisory opinions, the following should be noted:

CJC 3.2(A)
CJC 3.4
