May a judicial officer serve on an advisory committee for a non-profit organization which offers an annual leadership training course for residents who are interested in becoming more involved in civic and community affairs?
CJC Canon 5(B) permits judicial officers to participate in civic activities that do not reflect adversely upon their impartiality or interfere with the performance of their judicial duties. A judicial officer may serve on the advisory committee of a non-profit organization that offers an annual leadership training course for residents who are interested in becoming involved in civic and community affairs. The judicial officer should not, however, participate in any fundraising activities as that is prohibited by CJC Canon 5(B)(2).
