Washington State Jury CommissionCreated by the Board for Judicial Administration in June 1999, the Washington State Jury Commission was founded to conduct a broad inquiry into the jury system and to "examine issues including, but not limited to, juror responsiveness, citizen satisfaction from jury service, adequacy of juror reimbursement, and improving juror participation in trials"Since its formation, the Commission has developed a series of recommendations to improve jury service for the citizens of Washington. Forty-four recommendations are contained in the Washington State Jury Commission Report to the Board for Judicial Administration, July 2000. The work of the Commission is now in its implementation phase. To achieve the recommendations listed in the above report, the Committee will focus on drafting necessary legislation and court rules; organizing education for judges, attorneys and court management; and planning how to provide public information about jury service.
