Advisory Board
The Washington State Supreme Court order that created the Washington State Center for Court Research called for creation of an Advisory Board to "guide the Center’s activities and make regular reports to the Supreme Court."
Functions
The Center’s work depends, in multiple ways, on the advisory board. Board functions include:
- Identifying the research needs of the court community
- Evaluation of potential projects’ usefulness to the judiciary
- Evaluation of potential projects’ feasibility
- Assignment of priorities to research projects
- Guiding research design
- Reviewing research products
- Connecting academic researchers to the practicing court community
Membership
The order creating the Center specifies that the Chief Justice of the Washington Supreme Court will appoint advisory board members and designate one member as advisory board chair. Members serve three-year, staggered terms. The advisory board members shall be composed of one appellate court judicial officer, three trial court judicial officers, one county clerk, two trial court administrators, two members of the Washington State Bar Association, the state court administrator, an academic researcher, and one executive or legislative branch researcher.
