JUDGE MONICA J. BENTON
APPOINTED AS UNITED STATES
MAGISTRATE JUDGE

Celebrating the Courts in an Inclusive Society

Judge Monica J. Benton, currently serving in the King County District Court, on November 19, 1999, was selected by the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington to serve as a Magistrate Judge in that court beginning March 1, 2000.

Having served for a number of years as a member of the Washington State Minority and Justice Commission, Judge Benton expects to continue in that role. She is believed to be the first African American woman to serve as a magistrate judge in this district. She joins Magistrate Judge Ricardo S. Martinez, another long-time member and a former King County Superior Court judge, who continues his participation as a member of our Commission.
