Guardian ad Litem (GAL) and Court VisitorGrievance Procedures
If a party has a complaint about a guardian ad litem (GAL) or court visitor, the party may file a grievance in superior court. Generally, if the case is still active, the party may file a motion to bring the grievance to the court's attention. If the case has been completed, the written grievance is addressed to the GAL/Court Visitor Program Manager or Superior Court Administrator. Often it is a good idea to discuss concerns with the GAL/Court Visitor as they arise, before they become difficult to resolve. Attorneys can provide advice regarding a GAL's or court visitor’s involvement and whether a grievance is appropriate. Click here for ways to find legal assistance.
Grievance procedures vary by county and are usually included in the superior court local rules. Click here for local court rules. If the local court rules do not yet include GAL/Court Visitor grievance procedures, contact that court's GAL/Court Visitor Program Manager for information on how to file a grievance.
