Washington State Court Rules: Access to Justice

The Access to Justice Technology Principles are created by the Access to Justice Board’s Technology Committee and were presented to the Washington State Supreme Court for approval and adoption. The goal of the Principles is to allow the Washington legal community to constructively guide and emphasize the helpful role that technology plays in the court’s mission to provide justice.

The Principles are intended to

  • Guide the justice system’s use of technology,
  • Combat discrimination, unfair treatment, and unjust biases in the justice system, and
  • Ensure that technology does not create unfair results or processes for resolving legal problems.

The original Principles were adopted in 2004. The updated Principles were adopted in 2020.
