GR 9 COVER SHEET

Suggested Amendment

Rules of Appellate Procedure

Rule 10.2 – Time for Filing Briefs

A. Proponent: Washington State Court of Appeals Rules Committee

B. Spokesperson: Judge Bradley Maxa, Chair

C. Purpose: The proposed amendment to RAP 10.2(a) asks the court to adopt a 60-day deadline for filing opening briefs.  This matches the time given to respondents in criminal cases under RAP 10.2(c), and better captures the time and effort required to draft an opening brief from a bare record.

D. Hearing: Not requested.

E. Expedited Consideration: Not requested.

F. Supporting Material: Suggested rule amendment.
