Guide and File

What is Guide & File?

Guide & File is an interactive, web-based application that files court documents electronically by walking an individual through a series of questions called an "interview." Most Guide & File interviews are designed for parties who are not represented by an attorney.

When finished with an interview, a self-represented party, depending on the county of filing, will be able to:

  • Electronically file (eFile) forms with the court; or
  • Download the documents for saving to their hard drive; and
  • Print the completed form and deliver it in person to the court or use your county's e-file system.

To use Guide & File, you will need:

  • All case-related information:Names, addresses, dates, and other relevant information. For cases related to family issues, you will need birth dates for everyone involved, and Social Security numbers, if you have them. All documents need to be in PDF format. The program will ask you to upload documents, if appropriate.
  • A credit or debit card: If you file your form electronically, and it requires a filing fee, you will need a card for payment.
  • The ability to download the completed form for your records.
  • Access to a printer: You may need to print the form and deliver it to the court in person or for service of the other party.
