Request Type: Change or Enhancement
Which Systems are affected? Other
Business Area: Records Management
Communities Impacted: Public and Other Users
Impact if not Resolved: Medium
Impact Description:

The Public Case Search will continue to not provide statewide data.

What is the Business Problem or Opportunity

Modernizing the Public case search will have two distinct objectives: (1) To provide a better user experience for Public users and (2) Pointing the application at the level 01 data base that is currently used for JIS-link and the Public Index files rather than the Public Data Mart.

Multiple Searches will need to be analyzed for this ITG:

  1. Find my Court Date
  2. Statewide Case Search
    1. Search by Case Number
    2. Search by Person Name
    3. Search by Business Name
  3. Attorney search
    1. Court Calendar (District and Municipal courts)
    2. Proceedings by Bar # (District and Municipal courts)
  4. Statewide Person Name Search
  5. Licensed Health Facility Search
  6. Superior Court Judgment Search
  7. *NEW: Will Repository Search (requested by the DDC in December 2015)
Expected Benefit:
  1. Using the level 01 database instead of the existing public data mart would mean that all three of the non-Portal public viewers (JIS-Link, Public Index, and Public Case Search) would be drawing from the same, centralized data source. This will ensure the data available to the public is consistent and is derived from the EDR instead of from DB2. This will reduce the impacts to business when EDR-side changes occur by requiring only a single set of updated requirements, affecting only one technical workgroup instead of developing multiple sets of requirements across ISD and CSD. This would be much more efficient for business in the future.
  2. Using the level 01 database also lowers the security risk associated with providing data outside of the DMZ. Because it only houses public level data, it protects confidential case and person data from inadvertently being displayed.
  3. The level 01 database also includes King county data, which is currently unavailable in the existing public case search.
  4. 4. Public Users will have a more modernized application to complete searches for court data.
