What is the Business Problem or Opportunity |
This request is for the http://dw.courts.wa.gov/ website to display judgments entered in civil and criminal cases (SCOMIS Case type 9) as a hyperlink in the underlying case for which the judgment was issued. When a search is performed on the website, only the original civil or criminal case should be displayed, with a hyperlink from that case to the judgment case and to the case docket, if available. An explanation should also appear on the screen stating that even though the judgment has a separate identifying case number, it is not a separate or different case from the criminal or civil proceedings.
|
Expected Benefit: |
There would be less confusion over the fact that a single civil or criminal case appears with a case type 9, but ther was only one original case.
|
Any Additional Information: |
This request was generated based on the JISC adopting the recommendations of the JISC Public Case Search Workgroup on August 18th, 2010. This work detailed in this request will fulfill Recommendation Number 7 from the report.

Request Summary: |
When a search is performed on the website, only the original civil or criminal case should be displayed, with a hyperlink from that case to the judgment case and to the case docket, if available. An explanation should also appear on the screen stating that even though the judgment has a separate identifying case number, it is not a separate or different case from the criminal or civil proceedings. |
Business Impacts: |
There would be less confusion among the users of the public case search functionality over the fact that a single civil or criminal case appears with a case type 9, but there was only one original case. |
Summary of Proposed Solution |
The solution that the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) proposes to alleviate the confusion caused by judgments displaying as separate case numbers on the public case search website, is that on the public case search website, SCOMIS judgment cases will no longer appear as separate case numbers. Instead of a judgment showing as a separate case number, on the search results page of the website when a case is listed that has a judgment, a “Judgment link” will be added under the case number for the associated judgment case. |
Proposed Solution |
When the user clicks on the “Judgment link”, the website will display the Judgment case summary. The Judgment case summary will also include the originating case number in the case information. |
