Request Type: Change or Enhancement
Which Systems are affected? Judicial Information System (JIS)

Communities Impacted: CLJ Judges
Impact if not Resolved: Low
What is the Business Problem or Opportunity

Judges should have one password for both JABS, JIS and INSIDE Court web page. It is difficult to change three passwords every 90 days. Most importantly, the JABS password has to be changed on a special screen within JIS and the JABS screen does not provide any help in finding the F4 screen. This means many judges are calling the JIS IT staff for help. It will help judges to have either better explanations on resetting passwords or have a single place to do so in the IT system. Or, as another alternative have a screen that is easier to access from the JABS main sign in page that will link to the password change screen, instead of having to log into JIS to the second screen.

Expected Benefit:

Judges will spend less time calling for help at AOC and be able to change their password on the JABS program more easily and with less frustration.

Request Summary:

The original request sought to reduce the number of passwords required for users to access different systems and web resources. AOC examined several alternatives, but the current security protocols and policies cannot be changed without encountering significant security issues. The request continued by asking AOC to simplify changing the password in the Judicial Access Browser System (JABS) if it was not possible for AOC to reduce the number of passwords required. AOC's proposed solution addresses this portion of the request dealing with simplifying the changing of passwords within JABS.

Business Impacts:

Simplifying the password process will reduce the amount of time judges spend managing their passwords and reduce the volume of calls to AOC requesting support.

Summary of Proposed Solution

The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) would enhance JABS by adding a Judicial Information System (JIS) password change screen within JABS. The JIS password is also used to access JABS. This enhancement would simplify the process of changing the JIS password for JABS users by eliminating the need to log into JIS to change the password.

Proposed Solution

AOC proposes to enhance JABS by adding a JIS password change screen.

At the main JABS login screen, a link will be added to 'change password.' When that link is selected, the user will be asked to enter their RACF login id and password, and then their old JIS login and password and a new JIS password, which will be entered twice for confirmation.

- If the RACF information entered is incorrect, the user will be notified of that. The third time of RACF failure will result in message to contact administrator to reset RACF login, and will be returned to main login screen.

- If the supplied JIS login is incorrect, users will not be required to reenter RACF information, but will be required to reenter the correct JIS login information in order to reset the password.

Upon successful completion of process user will be sent to main Search screen in JABS.

Changing the JIS password in JABS will also update the JIS password in JIS. JABS users who reset the password in JABS would not need to change the password again when the log into JIS.
