Usage Notes
A Connection code and sequence number is used on the Names screen to indicate a person's role in the case. They can also be used on the Docket screen as a sub-docket entry to connect an entry with a case participant.

1. LNG must be entered following a primary litigant connection code or a local identifier (LID). It cannot follow other sub-connection codes such as AKA, DBA, etc. Specific language(s) or language codes established at the court level are entered in the Name field. A maximum of ten alpha/numeric characters are allowed. For a litigant added in JIS, the LNG code displays from the JIS person record and cannot be changed in SCOMIS..
2. The SCOMIS Caseload Report counts the Pro Se connection codes (PSP, PSD, and PSI) instead of the docket code APPS - Appearance Pro Se..
3. JNA connection code may be followed with a numeric value assigned by the court (e.g., JNA01). Courts using JDG codes, may want to use the corresponding numeric portion with JNA code. The BAR# sub-connection code may be used to provide name information. The JNA connection code does not echo back a name, and is used to indicate "Judge Not Available." JNA connections do not appear on the calendar. Courts may add a JNA for their working calendar and delete it for their posted calendar..
4. The OLD connection code in an Adoption/Parentage *** cases (including confidential name changes) results in the verbiage ADOPTION on the calendar instead of the participant's name. For causes that must be initiated in JIS, this connection with its associated Name, language, and AKA links is transferred from JIS and cannot be changed or deleted in SCOMIS. Refer to JIS Person Business Rule 1.40 for a list of casetypes, causes/charges which must use the JIS Person Database.
5. GAL is a connection code located in the litigant file. AGL is located in the attorney file. Both mean the same thing and either may be used. A GAL type connection appears in the case index report. An AGL type connection allows using the address sub-connection codes.
6. The MNR connection code in a Probate/Guardianship case results in the verbiage GUARDIANSHIP on the calendar instead of the participant's name.
7. For cases which must be initiated in JIS, this connection with its associated Name, language, and AKA links is transferred from JIS and cannot be changed or deleted in SCOMIS. Names may be repositioned on the Names screen using the MOVE NAMES command.
Refer to JIS Person Business Rule 1.40 for a list of case types, causes/charges, and participants which must use the JIS Person Database.
|
8. Withdrawing an Attorney: Type W over the first character of any attorney connection code to withdraw the party (e.g., ATP01 becomes WTP01). Withdrawn party code follows the description. Withdrawn attorneys will be removed from scheduled proceedings in JIS Calendaring (CAPS)..
9. The FML connection code is used in any case to identify and track related cases for Family Court. Enter name followed by case number.
10. The COD connection is used to identify co-defendants in consolidated criminal or juvenile offender cases. Enter name followed by case number.
11. For Truancy cases which must be initiated in JIS, this connection is transferred from JIS and cannot be changed or deleted in SCOMIS. Names may be repositioned on the Names screen using the MOVE NAMES command.
Refer to JIS Person Business Rule 1.40 for a list of case types, causes/charges, and participants which must use the JIS Person Database.
When juvenile departments begin to use the JCS application on May 16, 2005, the process for filing a truancy case in JIS changes for all superior courts. For a Truancy case, the Petitioner is added on the CIVA screen in JIS as an SD-type (school district) or ED-type (educational institution) of organization and the Respondent is added as an IN-type person. The SCOMIS Names screen will display the name and name code of the PET and RSP parties. Refer to the JIS Case Processing > Non-Criminal Cases topic in the the JIS Online Manual for more information on truancy case processing.
