No, the judge may write a letter of recommendation
on court stationery for lawyers or law enforcement officers
with whom the judge has worked. Again, the comments should
be confined to the judge’s personal observations about
the professional performance of the attorney or the law enforcement
officer.
The letter should clearly state that the comments
are based on the judge’s personal observations and
the views expressed in the letter are not necessarily those
of the other members of the court. In some instances it may
be appropriate for the judge to include a disclaimer stating
that the judge is not attempting to lend the prestige of
the office to advance the private interests of others. (Opinion
