Before Judge Marquez can decide whether this is appropriate she needs to look at the circumstances of the occasion.

Is this a function that is intended to be educational or is a partisan event such as a rally or convention? If the function is educational and the address will cover the law, the legal system and the administration of justice, Judge Marquez can attend. (CJC Canon 4(A))

If the function is of a partisan nature it may not be appropriate for the judge to attend or if the event takes on a partisan nature it may be appropriate for Judge Marquez to leave the event at that point.
