Washington Courts: Judicial News Report DetailSupreme Court announces the resignation of State Law LibrarianDecember 20, 2001
Washington Supreme Court Chief Justice Gerry Alexander announced the resignation of State Law Librarian, Deborah Norwood effective December 14, 2001. Norwood resigned her post to accept a position at the law library of George Washington University Law School in Washington D.C. "We will miss Deborah's expertise and vision," said Chief Justice Alexander. "She has served the Court, the legal community and the citizens of our state well for the past decade, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors." As the law librarian since 1989, Norwood introduced several efficiencies to the library, including the creation of GEORGE, an online public access catalog available to state agencies. During her tenure as the librarian, Norwood concurrently served as the Supreme Court Reporter of Decisions from 1995-2001, during a time of transition for the Reporter of Decisions Office. Although originally a part of the State Library, in 1959 the Legislature transferred the State Law Library to the jurisdiction of the Washington Supreme Court. The Law Library is located in the Temple of Justice, home of the Washington Supreme Court. With more than 53,000 titles and 340,000 volumes, the collection is one of the largest legal collections on the West Coast. It includes primary materials from all fifty states, including published official reports and statutes. Tim Fuller, who currently serves as reporter of decisions for the Supreme Court, has been named interim law librarian effective immediately. He will serve in that position until a permanent law librarian is appointed by the Supreme Court
