Supreme Court Justices From Six States To Meet In Seattle

More than 40 justices from six state supreme courts will gather in Seattle for the 3-day Pacific Northwest Judicial Conference. The event begins Thursday, August 27.

Justices from Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and the Washington Supreme Court will address issues courts will face in the next century. The conference will run until Saturday, August 29. Its theme: "Vision 2020: Leadership into the 21st Century." The event will be hosted by the Washington Supreme Court. Justice Richard P. Guy is the conference organizer.

Participants will be welcomed by Seattle Mayor Paul Schell at the Space Needle at 8 a.m., Thursday.

11 a.m. Thursday, August 27: Space Needle-Puget Sound Room
Cloning and genetics' future in the courtroom by Dr. Franklin Zweig, Einstein Institute of Science, Health and the Courts. Zweig will do talk shows, stand-ups or interviews in the two days (Thursday, Friday) he is here.

9 a.m., Saturday, August 29: Harbor Club Olympic Room 17th floor
The Quebec Reference by Madame Justice Claire L'Heureux-Dubé of the Supreme Court of Canada. Dubé can be filmed or recorded while she makes her Saturday presentation about her court's recent Quebec secession decision, but she will not do interviews.

10 a.m., Saturday, August 29: Harbor Club
International Tribunals by Father Robert Araujo Gonzaga University, Spokane.
Representatives of the U.S. recently said they would not participate in a move to create an international tribunal. Araujo will do interviews about this and related subjects.
