Sets hearing for September
Olympia, WA – The Washington Supreme Court today issued an Order in the case of McCleary et al. v. State of Washington.
The Order responds to the May 1, 2014 report of the Washington State Legislature regarding its plan to fully implement a program of basic education reforms for the 2017-18 school year, as adopted by the Legislature in ESHB 2261 and SHB 2776.
Constitutional education requirements were outlined by the Supreme Court in the January 5, 2012 McCleary opinion.
The unanimous Order summons the State to a show-cause hearing set for Sept. 3, 2014 at 2 p.m.

“We appreciate the timeliness of the State’s report following the 2014 legislative session,” said Chief Justice Barbara Madsen. “We take this step now to give the parties adequate time to consider the Court’s questions following that report.”
