Washington Courts: Press Release Detail

Lewis County Superior Court Administrator Susie Parker named Court Manager of the Year

December 18, 2014

The Washington State Court Management Council has named Lewis County Superior Court Administrator Susie Parker as 2014’s Court Manager of the Year. The award is given annually to a court manager or administrator who demonstrates leadership on a regional or statewide basis beyond what is expected of an individual court manager.

Parker was nominated by Grays Harbor County Superior Court Administrator Pamela Hartman Beyer and by Lewis County Superior Court Judge James Lawler. Both pointed to Parker’s extensive efforts in 2014 to help her court transition to a modern case management system, while at the same time she has acted as a mentor and consultant to other courts and to the state agency developing the system, the Administrative Office of the Courts.

Lewis County Superior Court was chosen as the pilot court for the new Odyssey case management system, which is expected to launch in summer of 2015 and eventually be implemented in nearly all superior courts across Washington.

“As administrator for the lone pilot court in the state for this project, [Parker’s] common sense approach to problem solving along with her technical computer skills have been invaluable in overcoming roadblocks along the way,” Judge Lawler wrote. “She has an innate ability to cut through the red tape and find solutions rather than talking things to death.”

“As administrator for a smaller court, the time and energy Ms. Parker has put into this is significant, but she never complains,” Beyer wrote. “She continues to go above and beyond for her court and for all courts in the state of Washington.” Beyer also thanked Parker for her mentorship.

Lawler also praised Parker’s work helping court clients connect up with mental health services available in the county, to the point that some clients call her directly to report on their successes.
“It is hard to imagine running this outfit without her,” Lawler wrote. “Hopefully she won’t retire before me.”

The Court Management Council is a statewide forum in which judicial branch leaders work to enhance the administration of courts.
