Whatcom County Superior Court Commissioner receives award for work with local Teen Courts

Whatcom County Superior Court Commissioner Chuck Snyder was recently presented with the “2002 Judge William Nevin Award” for his leadership in initiating Whatcom County’s Teen Court program in more than 11 local high schools.

The award was presented on Tuesday afternoon by Washington Supreme Court Chief Justice Gerry Alexander and Superior Court Judges’ Association President Deborah Fleck at the 2002 Judicial Fall Conference in Spokane.

For the past four years, Snyder has personally trained student volunteers to serve as jurors, clerks, bailiffs and advocates.  In addition to serving as a teen court judge, he actively supported legislation this past session to promote youth courts statewide.

The Nevins Award was created by the Washington Judges’ Foundation to honor those with an extraordinary dedication to the judicial branch of government.

Commissioner Snyder has served with the Whatcom County Superior Court since 1989, and serves on the Youth Court Committee of the statewide Council on Public Legal Education, and as a liaison to the Superior Court Judges’ Association’s Family and Juvenile Law Committee.

CONTACTS:  Commissioner Snyder, Whatcom County Superior Court 360-738-2457; Judge Deborah Fleck, King County Superior Court 206-296-9273.
