November 03, 1999
TOMORROW: Court of Appeals Oral Argument Schedule Changed
Oral argument on an appeal by a Port Townsend teacher has been cancelled. (Steven W. Simpson v. Port Townsend School District No. 50).
Originally set for 2 p.m., attorneys for Steven Simpson and the Port Townsend School District submitted a joint motion to waive oral argument. Judges of the Court of Appeals Division Two granted the motion on Monday, November 1.
Judges of the Court of Appeals will hear oral argument on six other cases tomorrow, November 4 at Port Angeles High School beginning at 9 a.m.
Cases include appeals of murder, child-rape, malicious mischief and drug convictions. A three-member panel from the Court's Division Two offices in Tacoma-division Acting Chief Judge David Armstrong, and Judges J. Robin Hunt and Karen Seinfeld-will hear the six cases.
Headquartered in Tacoma, the Division Two court has made community visits throughout its 13-county jurisdictional area since 1987.
Though the use of cameras and video recorders is generally allowed, the court requests no flash, other artificial lights, or noisy film advance mechanisms be used during the hearings. Written opinions should be available three to six months following Thursday's oral arguments.
