Washington Courts: Press Release Detail
Washington Supreme Court to Hear Cases at Seattle University School of Law
February 06, 2015
Seattle University School of Law's Fred Dore Courtroom will serve as a substitute Temple of Justice this week as the nine justices of the Washington Supreme Court visit campus Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 9 and 10.
The "traveling court" program is a regular outreach effort that allows people to see the court in action in their local communities, away from its usual home in Olympia. Members of the public are welcome to attend, in addition to the law school community.
On Monday, Feb. 9, the justices will visit with student groups and sit in on classes, followed by an evening reception. Then on Tuesday at 9 a.m., they'll hear oral arguments in three currently pending cases.
State of Washington v. William Michael Reis: Whether a search warrant for a suspected marijuana growing operation must be based on probable cause of a violation of medical marijuana laws.
Magdaleno Gamboa, et ux. v. John M. Clark, et ux.: A dispute between two Yakima County couples over the use of a roadway between their properties.
Personal Restraint Petition of Zahid Aziz Khan: An incarcerated Bothell man is challenging his 2007 convictions on five charges of child molestation and rape.
Briefs on these cases are available online.
Of the 10 attorneys arguing cases on Tuesday, five are Seattle University School of Law alumni: Tyler Hinckley '05, Mark Roe '86, Seth Fine '80, Kurt Boehl '05, and Stephanie Boehl '07.
