Washington Courts: Press Release DetailWashington Supreme Court will meet with students, hear real cases in Clallam County Sept. 9-10September 08, 2015The Washington Supreme Court will visit with students and hear oral arguments in three cases from a different bench this week in a community visit to the schools and colleges in and around Forks, in Clallam County. Supreme Court justices visit with students and community members Sept. 9, and then will hear oral arguments at Peninsula College on Sept. 10. The oral arguments are open to the public; two Q&A sessions with the justices will take place following morning and afternoon oral arguments. On Wednesday, Sept. 9, justices will split up and visit Quileute Tribal School, Clallam Bay High School, Lake Quinault School, Quillayute Valley School District, Forks Intermediary, Junior High and High School, and Peninsula College. On Thursday, oral arguments will be heard beginning at 9 a.m. at the Rainforest Arts Center, 35 N. Forks Ave. The morning’s cases include State of WA v. Tammera M. Thurlby, and then State of WA v. Troy J. Wilcoxon. Following morning cases, justices will host a Q&A session and then break for lunch with students. The afternoon case, State of WA v. Spencer L. Miller/Darryl Henderson will be heard at 1:30 p.m., with another Q&A session following. The Washington Supreme Court has made community visits throughout the state since 1985, and welcomes the public to the oral arguments. Though cameras and video recorders are generally allowed, the Court asks that no flash, other lights or noisy film advance mechanisms be used during the hearings. Only one television camera will be allowed to film the oral arguments; other TV stations are asked to pool coverage.
