Washington Courts: Press Release Detail

New manager will help guide work of Supreme Court Commissions

November 11, 2015

OLYMPIA — Attorney Cynthia Delostrinos has been named Administrative Manager for the Supreme Court Commissions, overseeing the work of the Gender and Justice Commission, Minority and Justice Commission and Interpreter Commission. In this role, Delostrinos will oversee the planning and implementation of programs to promote fair and equal access to the courts.

Delostrinos is a graduate of the University of Washington and Seattle University School of Law. She joined the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) in 2013 as a program analyst for the Minority and Justice Commission. Prior to joining AOC, Delostrinos was a legal extern with the Center for Children & Youth Justice, TeamChild, and the Seattle Office for Civil Rights. She also serves on the board of the Filipino Lawyers of Washington.

In May 2015, Delostrinos was named Acting Manager for the Supreme Court Commissions, following the previous manager’s promotion. “Cynthia has done an excellent job in this role,” said state Court Administrator Callie T. Dietz. “We are always pleased to promote excellent employees from within.”

As the Administrative Manager, Delostrinos will help develop policy and programming to address issues involving gender bias, racial equity, and language access, as they relate to the courts. She will oversee Commission staffing and budgets, and will provide support to leadership of the Commissions as they develop their visions and strategic plans, establish outcomes, and prioritize activities.

“Although we regret losing Cynthia’s direct service to the Minority and Justice Commission, we could not be more thrilled at the opportunity that lies ahead for her,” said Supreme Court Justice Mary Yu, co-chair of the Minority and Justice Commission. “Selecting Cynthia for this important role will strengthen each of the Commissions and our relationship to one another. She is an extraordinary individual and AOC is to be commended for recognizing her exceptional talent and providing her with an opportunity to share those gifts in a leadership role. We are so very proud of Cynthia.”

The Washington State Minority & Justice Commission was established by the state Supreme Court in 1990 to determine whether racial and ethnic bias exists in the courts of Washington and to take creative steps to overcome and prevent it. The Commission grew out of a task force established in 1988 at the urging of state legislators.

The Washington State Gender and Justice Commission was established by the state Supreme Court in 1994 to initiate measures to prevent gender bias in the courts. The Commission followed the work of the Gender and Justice Task Force, created by the Supreme Court in 1988 to research gender bias and develop recommendations to address and prevent it.

The Washington State Interpreter Commission was established by the state Supreme Court in 1987 to develop policies for an interpreter program and a code of conduct for court interpreters. The Commission works to ensure equal access to justice, and to support the courts in providing access to court services for all individuals regardless of their ability to communicate in the spoken English language.
