June 01, 2004
Kitsap County to announce first program in the nation that halts conflicts in domestic violence protection orders
Kitsap County District Court Presiding Judge James Riehl, Washington Supreme Court Justice Barbara Madsen, Kitsap County Prosecutor Russ Hauge and other county officials will unveil the first partnership effort of its kind in the nation to improve protection for domestic violence victims and decrease confusion for law enforcement officers.
The pilot program will aim to eliminate conflicts when two or more domestic violence orders are issued involving the same people to ensure that the strictest protection orders take precedence. Seen as a troubling trend nationally, the project is funded by a federal grant which is administered by the Washington State Office of Crime Victims Advocacy.
