Supreme Court Issues Order Regarding Washington State Redistricting

On December 3, the Washington Supreme Court issued an order declining to adopt a new redistricting plan for the state. The order was signed by all nine justices. It concludes that “the plan adopted by the Washington State Redistricting Commission met the constitutional deadline and substantially complied with the statutory deadline to transmit the matter to the legislature.”

The order also returns the matter to the Washington State Redistricting Commission for whatever work is necessary to transmit the plan to the legislature.

The order states that the court has not evaluated and does not render any opinion on the plan’s compliance with any statutory and constitutional requirements other than the November 15th deadline.
