Court of Appeals to Hear Local Cases at Bremerton High School

During a community visit on March 26th, Division Two of the Washington State Court of Appeals will call the Bremerton High School Performing Arts Center home, hearing seven criminal and civil appeal cases starting at 8 a.m. before a student audience.  The public is also invited to attend.

Judges David Armstrong, J. Robin Hunt and Christine Quinn-Brintnall, sitting as a three-judge panel, will hear arguments on the following appeals before students, teachers and observers: 

  • State of Washington v. Charles Thomas Berry (State appeal of an order dismissing a prosecution for attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle)   
  • State of Washington v. Thomas T. Rivera (Appeal from convictions of three counts of second-degree assault)
  • State of Washington v. William Scott Hall (Appeal from conviction of incest)
  • State of Washington v. Duron Deansmith (Appeal from conviction of second-degree rape)
  • Oliver M. Glover v. Columbia Collectors, Inc. (Appeals from a summary judgment in action against debt collection company for violating the Collection Agencies Act, the Consumer Protection Act, and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act)
  • State of Washington v. Adrian Brown (Appeal from conviction of second-degree child rape)
  • Wendy Clarke v. Michael Clarke (Appeal from order granting child support modification)

The Court will hear argument on the first four cases in the morning hours, then recess for lunch where they will be available to answer questions from students.   The court will reconvene at 12:30 p.m. to hear argument on the last three cases of the day.

Division Two of the Washington State Court of Appeals has made community visits throughout its geographic area since 1993.   The court hears appeals from trial courts throughout Western Washington, Pierce County south to the Oregon border and the Olympic Peninsula, and has the authority to overrule, remand, or modify or affirm decisions of the lower courts.
