Washington Courts: Press Release DetailCourt of Appeals Division III Will Hear Cases at a Yakima High School October 24October 19, 2022
The Washington State Court of Appeals, Division III, will hear oral arguments outside of its regular Spokane courtroom during a community visit to Eisenhower High School in Yakima on Monday, October 24, 2022. The hearings will begin at 9 a.m. in the school auditorium located at 611 S. 44th Ave., Yakima. The public is welcome to attend the oral arguments and at the end of the session, ask questions about the role and operations of the Court of Appeals. The Court of Appeals, Division III is headquartered in Spokane and hears appeals of trial court case outcomes from throughout the Eastern Washington counties of Adams, Asotin, Benton, Chelan, Columbia, Douglas, Ferry, Franklin, Garfield, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, Lincoln, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens, Walla Walla, Whitman, and Yakima. Division III Judge Rebecca Pennell commented: “Community based oral argument hearings are a great way for the public to learn about the work of the court and facilitate public education. We look forward to holding arguments in Yakima and interacting with Eisenhower students.” Beginning at 9 a.m., Presiding Chief Judge George Fearing, Acting Chief Judge Robert Lawrence-Berrey and Judge Rebecca Pennell will hear arguments in the following four cases:
Web access to public documents on the above cases can be found in the new Appellate Court Case Document portal. The portal service is free and does not need registration; searches must be done using the case number. Each oral argument will last approximately 30 minutes. There will be a 45-minute break between the second and third cases. The Court of Appeals occasionally hears oral arguments in various eastern Washington cities outside of its Spokane Headquarters. This will be the court’s first community-based set of oral arguments since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. For further information regarding the Court, visit the Washington Courts website.
