Washington Courts: Press Release Detail

Administrative Office of the Courts partners with state agencies, community partners to bring the “Science of Hope” to Washington June 25–28

June 21, 2024

A series of presentations will be hosted by state justice leaders and Hope Rising WA across Washington June 2528, to raise awareness of the “science of hope” and how hope-centered organizations can improve well-being for customers and employees.

Hope Rising WA is a collaborative effort that includes the Administrative Office of the Courts’ Family and Youth Justice Programs (FYJP), the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, community partners and philanthropic organizations all working to integrate the science of hope into policies and practices.

“Hope is the belief that the future will be better than today and you have the power to make it so,” said Dr. Chan Hellman, Ph.D, who will lead the presentations throughout the week.

The science of hope centers around setting goals, finding the pathways to pursue those goals and generating the willpower necessary to engage in the pathways. When organizations incorporate this framework of action into their regular operations and systems, research shows that hope increases the trust and engagement of staff and customers, and reduces workforce burnout and turnover.

The events held throughout the week will focus on teaching participants how to design and implement their current work to nurture hope inherently in their organizations, so that positive outcomes become more achievable and staff well-being and retention improves.
