Collections Amnesty – October 1 through Yakima County District Court announces an amnesty program aimed at clearing delinquent accounts. Other courts in our area who have elected to participate in this month long Amnesty are Yakima, Toppenish, Wapato, Union Gap, and Kittitas Municipal Courts. While each court program will differ slightly, the participating courts are offering the 30-day Amnesty Program from October 1 through Designed to help those with outstanding traffic tickets and misdemeanor or gross misdemeanor fines, the participating courts and their collection agencies have agreed to waive interest and a significant portion of collection costs on delinquent accounts currently in collection. The fines to the court must be paid in full. This is a rare opportunity for defendants to clear their delinquent accounts. By doing so they can avoid future mounting collection fees and civil actions such as garnishment or property liens. They may also eliminate barriers to obtaining or reinstating driver’s licenses. The participating courts are offering the 30-day program from October 1 through Garnishment and bankruptcy cases do not qualify for the amnesty program.
