For the fifth time, the city of Gig Harbor will play host to the statewide Criminal Justice Summit March 28-30 at the Gig Harbor Wesley Inn. This event, which occurs biennially, is designed to strengthen the relationships between Washington state’s justice partners, which includes law enforcement, government officials and courts and non-profit advocacy groups. This year’s theme is “Communities, Caring and Connecting.” “The Criminal Justice Summit is a unique event in that it brings together a multi-disciplined, diverse group,” said Summit co-chair and Gig Harbor Municipal Court Administrator Paul Nelson. “Summit attendees will have the opportunity to learn skills to better their relationships with victims and offenders, to better investigate these crimes for our law enforcement guests, and to better prosecute and defend.” This year’s keynote speakers include the Honorable Monica Benton, United States District Court Magistrate Judge; Brian Moran, Washington Chief Deputy Attorney General; Bob Welden, General Council, Washington State Bar Association; and Robin Hunt, Washington Court of Appeals. Session topics range from domestic violence, identity theft and Internet predators to ethics, community team building and court policy. The 2005 Summit drew nearly 130 attendees and this year’s event is promising to be just as popular.
