Order To Show Cause

An order requiring a specified person to appear in court at a particular time and place, to show cause why the court should not take certain action in a case; e.g., a temporary restraining order is often accompanied by an order to show cause, requiring the defendant to show cause why the court should not grant a preliminary injunction.
