Judge Dale M. Green

DIVISION III, POSITION 2

August 18, 1969–September 30, 1991

Appointed by Governor Evans; Retired

Judge Green was one of the original 12 members of the Washington State Court of Appeals, appointed by Governor Dan Evans in 1969. Raised on a small farm near Outlook, Washington, Judge Green decided that farm life was not for him and he would instead pursue a college education. Judge Green attended Washington State University (then Washington State College), where he met his future wife, Maxine (Peggy) his first day on campus. Judge Green’s college studies were interrupted by World War II. After two years of service in the Army, Judge Green returned to Washington and transferred to the University of Washington. He received his law degree in 1950.

After law school, Judge Green moved to Spokane, where he worked for the firm of Graves, Kaiser, and Graves. He later served as an assistant U.S. Attorney and U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, appointed by President Eisenhower. Judge Green worked in the Walla Walla firm of Sherwood, Tugman and Green before being appointed to the Court of Appeals.

During his time on the bench, Judge Green hired Vicky Vreeland from the Tri-Cities as the first female law clerk in Division Three.

Judge Green was active in church and the community and enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, and traveling.

Judge Green died in 2007 at age 85.
