Judge David S. Mann

Appointed by Governor Inslee

Judge David S. Mann was appointed to Division I of the Washington State Court of Appeals by Governor Jay Inslee in August 2016, and ran unopposed to retain his seat in November 2017. Judge Mann is currently serving as the Acting Chief Judge for Division I and is a member of the Washington Board of Judicial Administration.

Judge Mann was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Geology and Physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1982 and then worked as a professional geophysicist for 6 years before attending law school. Judge Mann received his J.D., with honors and a certificate in environmental law, from Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland in 1991. For 26 years before joining the Court, Judge Mann was a trial and appellate lawyer where his practice focused on state and federal environmental law, chemical exposure and trespass, land-use, property disputes, and administrative law.

Judge Mann has lived in Seattle's Ravenna/Roosevelt neighborhood since 1992 sharing his home with a menagerie of adopted rescue mutts. In addition to community work, Judge Mann is an avid arts and crafts furniture builder, trail runner, former bicycle racer, and lifelong backpacker and traveler.
