Judge Edward P. Reed

DIVISION II, POSITION 1

Judge Edward Reed was born on September 9, 1925 in Parris Island, South Carolina. He spent his youth growing up in Los Angeles, and attended high school in Long Beach. During World War II, Judge Reed served in the Navy on a submarine tender. After the war, he used the GI bill to attend Oregon State College, and then earned his J.D. from Willamette University College of Law in 1950. He then moved to White Salmon where he opened a law practice. During this time, Judge Reed chaired the Klickitat County Sheriffs Civil Service Commission and served as a member of the Klickitat County School Board, and the local board of adjustment. In 1965 he moved his family and law practice to Vancouver, Washington.

Judge Reed served on the Clark County Superior Court bench from 1970-1975, until he was appointed to Division Two by Governor Dan Evans in 1975. Judge Reed served as Chief Judge at Division Two from 1980-1982, and again from 1987-1988, and then as Presiding Chief Judge from 1988-1989.

Judge Reed was fluent in Spanish and spent many years traveling to South America where his son Allan was a member of the U.S. Diplomatic Corps.

Judge Reed retired from the court in 1990 to care for his beloved wife Margaret. He died in Tacoma on April 8, 1999.
