Judge John E. Turner

DIVISION II, POSITION 3

December 11, 1995–January 13, 1997

Elected

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Judge John Turner graduated from Western Michigan University with a B.A. in sociology and graduated from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1983. After law school he moved to the Pacific Northwest. He worked in Olympia as a general law practitioner before serving on the Court of Appeals, Division Two starting in 1995.

As a judge he strove to be compassionate, cogent and libertarian.

After serving the term for which he was elected, Turner retired from the bench in January 1997 and returned to his practice in Olympia. Turner believes retired judges enrich their communities and return as better lawyers. Turner also believes new judges rejuvenate the court, so terms should be limited.
